Fr. Shinzo Kawamura, a Jesuit of Japanese nationality, joined the Society of Jesus in 1983 and obtained a doctorate in History in 1999, from Georgetown University, USA. He is currently Professor of Early Modern Japanese History, Japanese Christian History and Church History in the Department of History of Sophia University, Tokyo, Japan.
